Complete Actor II

Complete Actor II Limit: 15

Get ready for the mini-production by taking this class. Complete Actor 2 will develop your skills as an actor through theater games and exercises, improvisation, story dramatization, mime and scene work. Young actors will build a mental, vocal, physical and emotional “toolbox” to lift them to the next level as performers. This is a prerequisite for the Stage Two advanced classes and mini-production.

Fall 2007

Commedia Tonight:Limit: 15

This class will explore ways to communicate the physical life of a character through acting, ensemble, improvisation and masks. Inspired by commedia dell’arte, students will create their own versions of “stock characters” using physical theater exercises and improvised scenes based on their characters' relationships.

Winter 2008

Physical Repertoire :Limit: 15

A fun and liberating journey into the physical self of the actor. Students will focus on self-awareness, breath, improv, posture, elemental connections, finding new pathways of movement, letting go and getting energized.

Stage II Special Workshops (No Prerequisite)

Martin Luther King: A Celebration in Song and Prose:Limit: 15

Explore the lifetime achievements of Martin Luther King, Jr., and help create a message of joy through songs, poems, and speeches. If you love to sing, this is the program for you. And if singing isn’t your thing, it’s still a place where you can have a shouting good time--all in tribute to a remarkable man.

Classes: Tues., 6:00-7:30 pm, Nov. 13-Dec. 18; Tues. & Thurs. Jan. 3-17, with extra rehearsals the week of Jan. 14

Behind the Scenes:Limit: 10

Behind the Scenes will introduce kids to technical theater. If you like to build things, paint things, or just create things, this is the place for you. The Behind the Scenes class will work with the Stage Two mini-production to create sets, props and costumes. This is a great class for anyone who wants to be involved at the Playhouse but isn’t interested in performing.

Second Stage Players Mini-Production (Prerequisite: Complete Actor II)

A Thousand Cranes:Limit: 20

The story of Sadako tells how the paper crane became an international symbol for peace. Sadako was just 2 years old when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, and at age 11, she was diagnosed with leukemia, known as the “atom bomb disease.” An ancient legend tells of the gods granting a wish to anyone who could fold 1000 paper cranes. Sadako’s courage in the face of personal tragedy is a story that inspires us all to strive for our dreams.

Rehearsals: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 4-6 pm, April 1 – May 22
