24th Annual Children's Circus of Middletown
The Children's Circus of Middletown seeks teaching artists for our 24th annual summer circus program. Interested applicants should have experience teaching and working with kids and possess a strong base of circus performance and directing skills. This five week program provides instruction in Circus Arts to over 200 children between the ages of 8 -15. The Children's Circus of Middletown culminates in a huge outdoor performance with 200+ performers and over a thousand spectators.

Training: 3 dates week of 6/25
Program Dates: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm, July 2-August 5

Circus Artists plan and teach 4 classes per work day: a basic introductory class to all participants in the first week, more advanced classes to participants who select their discipline for the following two weeks culminating in mini-performances. In the final two weeks Circus Artists direct two separate acts for the final performance. Circus camp counselors assist and support Circus Artists.

All Circus teaching artists are responsible for creating fun, safe, effective and engaging lesson plans that provide students with challenges, goals and results.

Art Room Instructor — Interested candidates must have prior experience working with children. Art Room instructor is responsible for leading visual art lessons that teach students to design and create various art projects. Lessons should demonstrate the use and potential of art objects in performance such as puppets, props, masks, scenic elements. Art Room Instructor directs circus acts that possess a strong visual art component consisting of student created work. Experience in puppetry a plus.

Clowning Instructor — Interested candidates should have experience working with children. Clowing Instructor must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in the art of clowning, slapstick, mime and/or pie throwing. Clowning Instructor is responsible for directing young people to create their own clown characters and vignettes.

Stilting Instructor — Interested applicants should have experience working with children. The Stilting Instructor is responsible for teaching kids how to stilt safely and effectively. Stilting Instructor should possess advanced stilting tricks and techniques to continuously provide additional challenges and goals for students to reach. The instructor should have knowledge of walking, stalling and falling. Experience directing and creating stilt choreography a plus.
