SUMMER YOUTH CIRCUS SEEKS INSTRUCTORS – Summer 2022
***Acrobatics, Dance, Advanced and Early Childhood Circus Instructors***
The Children’s Circus of Middletown seeks experienced Circus Teaching Artists for our 34th annual
summer circus program. Interested applicants should have a strong base of circus and/or performance
skills, experience working with kids, and a strong interest in building community through collaboration
and play. Teaching Artists should be able to design safe, fun, and engaging curriculum that challenges,
instructs, and inspires young people in a circus training and performing environment.
This five-week, in-person program provides instruction in a variety of circus arts to 150+ children
between the ages of 5-15. Teaching Artists will plan and implement two to four, 1-hour lessons per day
for 10-15 students. Teaching artists will also assist in creating performance share days to build students’
confidence and showcase their skill development. Teaching artists also plan and direct acts for the
culminating circus performance at the end of the program.
*All teaching artists must comply with all COVID-19 safety protocols and assist in regular cleaning and
maintenance of equipment.
Teaching Artists work closely with the Circus Directors, the Designer/Technical Director and youth
counselors to create a dynamic, arts-based learning environment for young people to thrive in.
Additionally, counselors are assigned to Teaching Artists as assistants in all the disciplines. It is the
responsibility of the Teaching Artist to delegate tasks and mentor counselors towards becoming positive
role models and possibly future teachers themselves.
All candidates must complete a background check as a condition of employment.
**Competitive salary**
Housing options may be available for applicants from out of town.

Middletown Commission on the Arts.
Program/Training Dates: June 27 - August 8, Weekdays from 8:30am-4:30pm
**no camp Monday, July 4**
Mandatory Daily Staff/Artist Meetings 3pm - 4:30pm
Performance Date: Friday, Aug 5, 5pm. Rain Date Saturday, Aug 6, 5pm
Clean-up and Evaluations: August 8, 9-5
This summer's Children's Circus of Middletown will run July 5 - August 5.
Children's Circus is NOW HIRING experienced teaching artists, scenic designer, technical director and costume designer - competitive pay and housing provided for out-of-town artists.
Applications for Circus Counselors are now being accepted from anyone ages 16 and up.
